Would you like to take your kids under 12 rafting? Or would you enjoy having a less extreme river experience? That’s totally possible!
We offer rafting on a section of the river with class II-III rapids, for families, or a section without any rapids, for floating!
Transport & Accommodation
Your Family Rafting or Floating trip will start from and end at Rukungiri Center; at the SANA accommodation. You can leave your car and belongings there, the transport to and from the river Birira is included! Any help with transport to Rukungiri can be arranged as well.
If you want to stay in Rukungiri the night before or after the activity, you can stay with us! An overnight, including breakfast, is $50,- per room (for 2 people). From the SANA accommodation, you can go for a walk, cycle, hike and of course join us to raft or float River Birira.
Lunch Included
A freshly prepared, self made lunch is included if you take the full-day trip. You will have lunch next to one of the most iconic falls of the Birira River. If you have any dietary restrictions, be sure to mention them to us beforehand. If you take a half-day trip, we will give you a well-deserved soda or beer at the end of the trip!

Family Rafting or Floating Experience
If you have children between 8 and 12 years old, or find rafting a bit scary, we offer family rafting. We will take you rafting on a lower section of the Birira River, through beautiful savannah environment, with countless tropical birds and interaction with children swimming in the river. This trip takes approximately 3-4 hours, with two hours on the water. If you take the trip in the morning, you can have lunch and thereafter be on your way to safari!

Good to Know
Before you come on the river with us, it’s good to be aware of the following:
- You have to sign the Participant Agreement (waiver) prior to the activity
- Children of 6 years and above can join family rafting
- You do not need to know how to swim
- River Birira does not have bilharzia, is not connected to the Nile or lake Victoria.
- There is no dangerous wildlife in River Birira
- You will find countless beautiful tropical birds when floating
- Do not bring anything on the water that is not attached/stripped onto your body
- If you have any medical conditions, let us know prior to the activity, we can discuss whether and how you can join us safely.
