Overnight Rafting
A truly unique adventure.
Are you the type of traveler looking for an off the beaten track experience? Then, this 2-day adventure is for you!
Day 1 : Rafting
The first day on Birira River, you will raft through thick jungle, ride rough and exciting rapids, interact with local gin makers and have endless fun on the river. It starts at 9 AM with a 40 minutes drive to the river, after which you will be briefed and get your safety gear. The team will take you on a 5-6 hours adventure on the exhilarating river. Halfway, you stop for a self-made lunch next to the river. Make sure you take your time to enjoy the stunning lush green jungle around you, in between rapids.
A night under the stars
After spending the whole day on the water, you will be so happy to reach the camp, where your tent will be waiting for you, as well as a cold beer and some warm soup. The evening will be filled with good food, cooked on an open fire, as many beers as you want, and even some punch made with fresh fruits and locally brewed gin, by the community next to the river - for those interested. If you’re lucky, this all will happen under a clear sky, full of stars and with some music, singing, and playing the drums by you and the team, next to the fireplace.
Day 2 : Floating
Wake with the sun and enjoy a simple breakfast of eggs by the fire, fresh fruit, and local coffee or tea before heading out for your second day on the river. Then you head off to float the next section of the River Birira, where the scenery shifts from lush jungle to beige-green savannah. The river is calmer here, giving you time to interact with children playing in the water and spot countless tropical birds. The day ends in Ishasha, at the southern edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where your lodge is just steps from the river. Meanwhile, we’ll have your car transferred from Rukungiri to Ishasha, so you’re set for a game drive the following day.
